  • 1963

    Waltner Remembers the Tragedy that Transformed Our Nation

    Dr. Waltner was working the night shift in medical school at Parkland Hospital in Dallas on Thursday, November 21, 1963, when Parkland Hospital was transformed into the focus of the country and the world as doctors pronounced John F. Kennedy dead while others worked to save the life of Texas Governor John Connally.

    Two days later, many of those same doctors would work in vain to save the life of Lee Harvey Oswald, the man charged with shooting President Kennedy and Governor Connally as their motorcade made its way through Dallas.

    Connally recovered and delivered the graduation address to the Class of 1964. Waltner, a member of the Class of 1965, had many of the attending physicians to Kennedy, Connally and Oswald as Southwestern faculty members.

    October 1, 1972

    Jeffrey M. Waltner MD opened Norman Orthopaedic Clinic Inc. on October 1, 1972, and the clinic was at Doctors Park Building. The 5900 sq ft space was located at 500 E Robinson Suite 2400. Although, on September 29, 1972, before opening his clinic, the Norman Regional ER asked him to treat an arm fracture which was the first patient he treated in Norman. On October 24, 1973, Norman Orthopedic Clinic “NOC” became incorporated. The first Total Hip Replacement was done in 1973.

    Jack Beller MD- Served 2 years active duty for US Air Force and is a former Major in the United States Air Force.
    May 1991-Robert M Lambert MD and Richard M Harkness were in active military duty and served in Operation Desert Storm.

    Mayor issued official proclamation in its honor as “community appreciation event”.

    Fun day marks the end of school and beginning of summer. It included clowns, magic shows, juggling, balloon art, mini footballs, balloons. Pony rides, petting zoo, moon walk, kiddie rides, dunk tank, educational exhibits, Norman Police & Fire, American Red Cross, storyteller from Norman Public Library, ice cream, fruit drinks, Gilt Edge Farms provided treats.
